| Fictions is a masterpiece of Borges’s novels’mature style and a classic of contemporary world literature. It has long been concerned. As the most subversive narrator,Borges applied the creative principle of extremist poetry to create the short story collection.Abandoned concept in traditional novel:characters, plots, and narrative order as the main line,he consciously broke the chain of causality in the text in the narrative process, and constantly interrupted the time flow of narration.Using diluted plots, concordance, repetition, irony, intertext and other techniques,a rich creative model has been formed.Length of the works is short and language is refined, but with the symbol of mutual care, the continuous bifurcating narration, and the form of poetry, various elements that seem to have nothing to do with the development of events form a unified system in the text. The reader must also use the"reaction reference" method to understand the work as a whole when accepting and perceiving it.Therefore, whether from the perspective of creative subject or the perspective of accepting subject,Fictio,ns has obvious spatial form characteristics.Based on the research framework of "spatial form" proposed by famous American critic Joseph Frank, this paper analyzes the creative ideas and artistic characteristics of Fictioins and summarizes the use of spatial form techniques in his novels. There is also a discussion of its function and aesthetic significance,so as to increase the study of spatial narratology and to further explore the research perspective of Borges’s novels. The introduction briefly explains the background and characteristics of Fictions, and expounds the theoretical angle and research goal of the article in the light of the current research background of Borges’s novels and the theory of "spatial form" at home and abroad. The first chapter mainly takes the Analysis of the Works of Herbert Quain and The Garden of Forking Paths as examples, and puts forward several basic models of modern novels that has the characteristics of Spatial Form presented in Fictions by using the form of writing book reviews for "imaginary books".At the same time.,these "imaginary books"directly or indirectly mention the ideas of many novel creations which conincides with the concept of "spatial form" proposed by Frank. The second chapter analyzes the scripts of“The Secret Miracle"“The South”“The Library of Babel" "Pierre Menard,Author of the Quixote" in a detailed way;Specifically,it puts analysis on how Borges used the stagnation of time, diluted plots, and the simultaneous and repeated writing techniques to show the typical characteristic of Spatial Form.On this basis, the third chapter focuses on the analysis of the two major functions of the Spatial Form in Fictions:the effect of irony and the necessity of re-reading.On the basis of repeated reading, the reader needs to find the connection between the large and small meaning units scattered in the text, and understand it as a whole,in which the deep meaning of the text beyond the text can be tasted.Although the Spatial Form of Borges’s novels text is an important feature of his short stories,it has not aroused enough attention from the academic community. The interpretation of Fictio,ns from the perspective of "Spatial Form"regards all works as an indivisible whole and finds their links, which will have a good guiding effect on readers’ acceptance and make Borges’s literary world easier to be understaood and accepted. |
