A Report On Interpreting For An Investing Meeting Of Renewable Resources

With the development of international business activities,international trade and investment is growing fast between China and other countries.Many companies from various industries are seeking cooperation with foreign joint ventures to expand the scale,including the renewable resources industry.The renewable resources industry is a process of recycling used waste materials to create new value for the purpose of saving resources and reducing waste emissions.Under the circumstances of seeking cooperation with the foreign venture,the author-interpreter attended an interpreting practice at Lucheng Tianyuan Renewable Resources Company in April,2018,and worked as interpreter for the clients from Japan,and finished the work successfully.Based on the author-interpreter's practical activities,this report introduces the problems that were encountered during the interpreting process as a business negotiation interpreter and the corresponding processing strategies used in the interpreting.The Skopos theory is an important theory for the author-interpreter to guide interpreting practice and solve interpreting difficulties in this practical activity.As a main translation theory,the Skopos theory,including three principles of the skopos rule,the coherence rule and fidelity rule,and the loyalty principle,has more than 45 years history and plays an important role in interpreting practice.In practice,the author-interpreter encountered three major interpretation difficulties.The first interpretation difficulty was at the lexical level,including technical terms interpretation problem and cultural-loaded words interpretation problems.The second was at the syntactical level that consisted of long sentences interpretation,short sentences interpretation and special sentence patterns interpretation.The last was at the phonological level,which can be divided into the problems of expression errors and the accent problems of the client.The author-interpreter herself combined the context and applied the three rules of Skopos theory including the Skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule,and loyalty principle,to the interpretation practice flexibly and finally overcame the problems in the interpretation process.At the end of this report,the deficiencies and reflections in the interpreting activities are also explored,as well as the findings.In general,the author-interpreter believes that interpretation practice is essential for interpretation studies.The correct use of translation theory in interpreting practice,flexible use in specific situations,active adaptation to different interpreting environments,adjustment of mental state,and improvement of interpreting skills are indispensable links for becoming a qualified interpreter.
