A Study On The Former Residence Of The Family Of Shanxi Merchant Dong Zhizhen In Tasi Village,Qi County,Shanxi Province

Traditional dwellings boast rich and distinctive geographical characteristics and are closely related to people's life.They are the representative of traditional Chinese architecture.The former residence of the family of Shanxi Merchant Dong Zhizhen,located in Tasi Village,Qi County,Shanxi Province is a three-section compound built in Qing Dynasty that is still in good keep.This compound boasts the characteristics of dwellings in Jinzhong,such as tall external wall,single pitch roof,and the layout of narrower in both the east and west and longer and narrower in the south and north,which is of significant research value in the studies of architecture and history.With the research means of field surveys,historical documents,three-dimensional digital surveying and mapping techniques,oral history,and interviews,this investigation teases out the history and status quo of Tashi Village where Dong's mansion is located,and describes the background of the mansion.This investigation was completed by collecting and organizing the historical and cultural information of Dong's mansion from both the material and non-material perspectives,including the survey of architecture,the history of the owner of Dong's mansion and his family and the forms of lifestyle.After completing the corresponding charts and graphs based on the investigation,the author kept a comprehensive record of Dong's mansion,completed the case studies of the mansion,explored its research value,and defined clearly the representativeness and universal significance of Dong's mansion in Chinese traditional dwellings,thus providing some reference for the research of grassroots social activities in Shanxi Province.The investigation will enrich the study of Chinese residential dwellings and make the investigation and study of ordinary houses enter the public view.Based on this,the future planning of Dong's mansion was prospected and explained in this paper to provide a reference for the protection and development of Dong's mansion and other traditional dwellings.
