From the perspective of themes and narration, the thesis studies on the creation of Juan Rulfo’s novels.Firstly,Rulfo presents universal sufferings, the loneliness among individuals and in society, his attitudes towards birth and death and fate as well as his concept of marriage in his novels.Secondly,by using the method of magic realism,Rulfo narrates his story as follows: he disorders the chronological order and converts omniscient and limited perspective, causing the overlap of multidimensional space and time.In this work,Rulfo cancels the accuracy and explicitness of recognition and gives readers a rich imaginary space by leaving blank technique.Meanwhile, through interweaving dialogues and memory,it makes monologue and sleep talking coexist in the novel. With the modernism methods of absurd, symbol, suggestiveness and stream of consciousness,it reveals the fragmentary features of real life and then shows characters’ complicated inner activities better. Finally,Rulfo describes Mexico’s history and reality with a kind of realistic spirit by applying the magic realism technique and discusses those themes of sufferings, loneliness, birth and death, fate as well as love and marriage, forming the style of Latin America’s special magic realism. He focuses on the social reality of rural areas, and peasant’s living conditions and the inherited issues of national culture. His novels have an important influence on Marqueze,Yan Lianke and many other writers.Rulfo’s novel writings are of great significance not only on Latin America’s literature but also on the world literature.
