EFL Teachers’ Talk can not only help to impart knowledge but also to reveal the context and decode meanings of texts and discourses.Besides,it is created to describe some specific detailed information and to narrate situations for the classroom organization and activities.In general,EFL Teachers’ Talk performs three pragmatic functions as “giving information”,“revealing contexts” and “instructing and inspiring”.These functions can be realized by such instrument as Narrativity,in which the EFL Teachers dedicatedly select topics,details,words and arrange sentences properly and effectively.They make the best use of Narrativity to convey knowledge,meanings and to create contexts so that the students could be engaged into the classroom activities,thus improve the Pragmatic Effect.Semantic Wave,as a new linguistic theory to explain the flow of semantic information and development of discourses,has a certain explanatory power for the Narrativity and Pragmatic Effect of EFL Teachers’ Talk.On the one hand,it can be employed to reveal the changing regulation of Semantic Density and Semantic Gravity and to detect the process of the formation of EFL Teachers’ Talk and its Pragmatic Effect.On the other hand,it serves as a guidance for composing a better and effective Teachers’ Talk.Under the instruction of this theory,EFL teachers may have a better understanding of the relationship between Semantic Density and Semantic Gravity and therefore maximize their Pragmatic Effect of classroom discourse.This paper is composed of 5 chapters.The first chapter introduces the background,significance and questions of the research briefly.In the second chapter,former studies are collected,research points are cleared up.The third chapter collates the relative theories so that a research framework is condensed.In the fourth chapter,transcriptions of EFL Teachers’ Talk in National Micro-Teaching Competition has been collected and analyzed.The last chapter generalizes the main findings,innovations and limitations of this paper.This paper attempts to study the Narrativity and Pragmatic Effect of EFL Teachers’ Talk from the perspective of Semantic Wave.It explores the application potential of Semantic Wave theory and lays a foundation for further studies.Within the guidance of Semantic Wave,a corpus has been built and analyzed.The reliability of this research is guaranteed.Although the research scope is limited due to the limitation of time and knowledge,the further researches will never stop here.
