Curium porcelain is the first ceramic repair business in China.Depending on the rise and fall of porcelain manufacturing industry,it has gradually developed into a unique set of aesthetic language after several ups and downs. As with many folk handicrafts, curium porcelain, the earliest ceramic restoration industry in China, has also been faced the crisis of inheritance.Handicraft is the product of human behavior. Therefore, its survival and development are affected by human emotions. Its development is dependent on users, ceramic craftsmen, and pottery creators. When curium porcelain has a collision with the modern art form,we can feel the aesthetic characteristics of curium porcelain technology and the cultural connotation behind it,and then it will burst out new vitality.Starting from the three roles which are closely related to curium porcelain: user, craftsman, and ceramic creator, this paper analyzes the material technology, creative technique and visual language of curium porcelain in modern ceramic works from concrete examples. This paper discusses the thinking pattern and aesthetic concept of the author or the user. Now,there are still people who would choose this way to repair porcelain. They hope that porcelain could regain the original appearance and the broke ones could even obtain new vitality. In this work,we can sense people’s feelings for porcelain treasure,an aesthetic pursuit for unique and incomplete beauty, trust for curium porcelain workers, and cultural recognition of traditional curium porcelain handicraft. This is also showed in the post-industrial era, people’s spiritual pursuit returns from pure craftsmanship to man and nature. It is the rebellion to standardization and mass production.Stern,an American architect, sums up three ways of expressing postmodernism style: context, metaphor and decoration. We can illustrate it from the perspective of modern pottery creation: Context refers to the cultural origin behind the work, metaphor refers to the ideas and attitudes conveyed by the author through his works, and decoration is the expression of art, which is animportant aesthetic embodiment of artistic works. When it comes to artistic creation and emotional expression, modern ceramic artists don’t get restricted by the form of creation languages. They tend to utilize the material in hand to show the texture of the work, considering the natural factors during production procedure and the possibility of combination with other materials.Curium porcelain language, with its unique metal texture, decorative meaning,as well as profound cultural connotations, has inspired many ceramic creators. They try to use curium porcelain as a symbolic language, integrate into their works, and explore more abundant expressions in the ceramic creation. This paper discusses the role of curium porcelain in contemporary ceramic art,as well as the aesthetic tendency and cultural connotation behind it.Finally, this paper puts forward the thinking of how this traditional folk handicraft curium porcelain could have sustainable development and inheritance in the future. It also aims to explore and reveal some clues how this folk handicraft can be inherited.
