| According to its formal features,metadiscourse could be divided into three categories: lexical metadiscourse,punctuative metadiscourse and visual metadiscourse.We might infer form the theory of metafunctions(Halliday)that metadiscourse is the part with textural function and interpersonal functions in a discourse.By now,academia mainly focuses on researches about lexical metadiscourse and textural function of metadiscourse.However,punctuative and visual metadiscourses occupy an important place during speech act.<Kong Shan> has extremely enough expression forms of punctuative and visual metadiscourses to provide valid corpus date for current research.Analysing with the target linguistic materials,this article tries to elaborate the unconventional functions of punctuative and visual metadiscourse.We will interpret the concept of punctuative and visual metadiscourse in the text.This article illustrates and analyses the special punctuative and visual with which the writer concerned,than elaborates their functions using inductive analysis.Quantitative analysis and corpus analysis could provide statistical support for viewpoints in the text.Parallel analyzing <Kong Shan> with other novels,we can see the similarities and differences at metadiscourse choosing and using of novelists.During the processes of analyzing and comparing,we deal with the uses of metadiscourse beyond the standard,and try to explain from functional and theoretical aspects.Combining with the subjectivity theory,with the help of witch we can elaborate the functions of punctuative and visual metadiscourse.Punctuative and visual metadiscourses among <Kong Shan> have the functions of marking,emphasizing,portraying,mood lightening functions.The use of metadiscourse is subjective,it is mainly manifested in two aspects: the author’s level and the reader’s level.As far as the interpersonal function concerned,the use of metadiscourse could bring positive interpersonal effects or negative interpersonal effects. |
