From Indonesia To Southeast Asia:Conceptions And Methods Of Historical Research Of Anthony Reid

Anthony Reid,well known for his "Brodel" in Southeast Asia,devoted more than50 years to the study of the history of Southeast Asian countries and regions,using the conception of overall historical research.He has a great influence in the international academic community.Domestic academic community mainly focus on the “total history” method of Reid,but little attention is paid to how this method is formed.Based on this,this paper selects historiography research conception and methods of Reid as the object of analysis,takes his more than 50 years of academic career as the research period,and analyzes how he transitioned from the Indonesian history to the total hitory research of Southeast Asia.Based on those,the article explores if there are smoe "changes" and "steadiness" in this process.By analyzing the historical methods and concepts of Reid from the perspective of integrity,the purpose of this paper is to make the academic cognition of Reid' s research more concrete and objective in a certain degree.In addition,this topic not only helps the domestic academic community to understand Reid in the overall development process,but greatly benefits the deeper understanding of his writing methods.At the same time,his research methods are applied and analyzed.The selection of research ideas,the gradual development of research conceptions and the adjustment of writing patterns also have certain reference significance for the training of research scholars in Southeast Asia.
