A Comparative Study About Heart Theory Between Xunzi And Zhuzi

"Heart" is an important concept of Chinese philosophy.In the Analects of Confucius,the Confucius' s heart has mainly two connotations: the conscience and the cognitive heart.Later Mengzi used the "four heart" to define the temperament,and the heart said by Meng Zi was the conscience.In the period of the song and Ming Dynasties,Lu Jiuyuan and Wang Yangming were also more focused on the conscience.This can be said to be the tradition of the Confucian conscience.In contrast,Xunzi and Zhuzi was the masters of Confucianism in the pre Qin period and Neo Confucianism in the song and Ming Dynasties.However they did not follow the tradition of Confucian conscience,they focused on the connotations of Confucius' s cognition,which is the tacit understanding that they have in the sense of righteousness,and the writing of this article is coming from it.The article firstly discuss the relationship between the heart and the human nature and temperament of them so as to highlight the role and characteristics of the heart in their philosophical systems.Xunzi regarded the natural biological instinct as human nature,he thought if the human nature without constraints would lead to evil,So Xunzi hoped to salvage the evil in the heart,The heart of human can cognitive etiquette and guidelines,Apparently,Xunzi's whole philosophy theory is that using the heart to contrain the humanity,This heart is the cognitive heart;Before discussing Zhuzi's heart theory,we need to discuss his Qi theory.In the universe,Zhuzi separated the heaven principles from gas;In the real life circle,Zhuzi divided the heart and human narture and temperament into three parts.That is to say,human narture is the metaphysical,and the emotion is the physical gas,But,the heart is neither metaphysics nor phsics.To achieve the highest level,Zhuzi thought that we need to do inside and outside Kung Fu to the heart.Only in this way,can make the heart to perceived the whole heavenly principles.So,the feelings produced by the human narture can achieve a harmony.Apparently,the heart of Zhu Xi is not the conscience of confucian and it is a cognitive heart.Secondly,the artical has acomparison about the trait of heart of Xunzi and Zhuzi.The common trait of them is that the heart has a dominant characteristic,the difference is what Xunzi said is the heart of "Qingming ",and What Zhuzi said is the heart of "virtual mind".Finally,Kung Fu to Xunzi and Zhu Xi's heart were compared,according to the characteristics of the heart discussed by Xunzi and Zhuzi,Xunzi advocated the Kung Fu of "achieving calmness by modesty and concentration to the heart,While Zhuzi emphasizes “conservation efforts” to the heart,of course the Kung Fu of them has a converge on the theory of “sincerity ",which is also similarities of them.
