Nowadays,our daily life is full of advertisements.As a means of propaganda,advertising can show the characteristics of goods and services to consumers and build brand value through advertising language.It can also influence consumers' choice and stimulate consumers to buy products or services.This is consistent with the interpersonal meaning in the Systemic Functional Grammar.China's export trade has developed rapidly in recent years,and the automotive industry is no exception.Therefore,it is of great value to study how foreign advertisers can achieve interpersonal meaning through the use of various linguistic resources in advertisements.This thesis collects 30 automobile advertisements from different high-end automobile brand official websites,and takes them as corpus.Based on the Systemic Functional Grammar and Appraisal Theory,this thesis mainly adopts classified discussion to analyze and classify the language resources in advertising discourse.Through the depth analysis of the corpus,this thesis draws the following conclusions: in the automobile advertisement,on the one hand,using the declaratives,the low value modal words and the second person can better realize the interpersonal meaning;on the other hand,the appreciation resources in the attitude system,the dialogic contraction resources in the engagement system and the force resources in the graduation system can also achieve better interpersonal meaning.To be brief,under the guidance of the System Functional Grammar and Appraisal Theory,this thesis studies the advertising language used by foreign automobile advertisers to explore how to better realize interpersonal meaning,and thus can enlighten the writing of automobile advertising.
