| Jin Yufu,a Chinese historian and bibliographer in the twentieth century, was rich in learning and in his writings.Wu Tingxie said "No one ever achieved such achievements in the history of Northeast",and Yu Youren called him "the crown of the Liaodong literati".His studying source, with remarkable achievements, ranges from historiography, philology, epigraphy, historical geography, archaeology to literature, ancient writing,calligraphy,etc..The focus of his study is on the aspect of history, especially in the history of Northeast China,Song,Liao and Jin Dynasties and that of Chinese historiography. He’s more conscientious and diligent than others with all kinds of writings about 15 million words. As an important part of Jin Yufu’s academic achievements, his academic thought, especially the thought of historiography,is profound and meticulous, but the researchers have not paid enough attention to it,and there are still many shortcomings in terms of the breadth and depth of the research. Therefore, the author tries to examine his historical thoughts from his several decades’ writing work Diaries of the Tranquil Room with rich historical value. This paper is divided into four parts:the first chapter is a brief introduction to Jin Yufu’s life experience and the course of his historical research;the second is a review of Jin’s achievements in historiography;the third is an analysis of Jin’s historical thought. Finally,it is the conclusive evaluation of Jin’s historiography thought. The main points of this paper are as follows:First,Jin Yufu thought that "the ancient classics were written according to the history",who further developed the historical viewpoints of Wang Yangming and Zhang Xuecheng---"the five Classics"and "the six Classics are both the History".Second,Jin Yufu thought that "archaeology is especially crucial to know the present",paying attention to the function of the social role of history.Third,Jin Yufu considered that "the men of history should be prepared for the three diligence" and attach importance to the accumulation of historical materials and field investigation.Fourth,Jin Yufu believed that "learning is valued for comprehensive literature and the history of governance is especially important".He not only emphasized the auxiliary role of other disciplines on history, but also laid emphasis on the exchange within a specific history of historiography.Fifth,Jin Yufu considered that original classics should be read initially before reading the general works.Sixth,Jin Yufu held that historical writing should strive to achieve the quality commensurate with simple words but abundant information.Seventh,Jin Yufu once proposed a new style of historical revision, but this idea was not realized for various reasons. |
