A Practice Report On The Translation Of The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby (Chapter 6)

The original text of this translation report is the first half of the sixth Chapter of The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby,a news works collection book written by Tom Wolfe,the father of new journalism.It came from the activities of translation organized by my tutor.Cooperating with other translators,I accomplished this translation task of mine on time and obtained positive feedback from my tutor.I benefited so much from this practice that I feel it adequate to be used as the material for report.There are four chapters in this translation report.The first chapter introduces the source,content and requirements of this task.Chapter Two describes the entire translation process including three stages of pre-translation,translation and post-translation.In the preparatory stage,I was requested to make a full analysis of the textual features of the original text,to finish the reading of parallel texts,and to arm myself with a proper translation theory.The third chapter deals with how to reach the expected translation standard.It is a set of case analyses made of the translation techniques at the levels of the title,vocabulary,sentence,rhetoric and text according to Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation.Chapter Four is a summary of the gains and lessons of this translation.
