Virginia Woolf,a modernist literary pioneer of twenty worlds, used her unique aesthetic concept to create a mad writing in her novel Mrs.Dalloway.In this article, the writing of madness refers to the form and content of Woolf’s novel creation aimed at reproducing the form of madness.Formally speaking, the writing of the stream of consciousness is focused on the inner spiritual state of the characters,so that the madness writing in this novel has achieved a return in literature. In terms of content,Mrs.Dalloway aims to express mad consciousness and thinking, compare it with so-called rational thinking, and show the predicament faced by modern people and the consequent spiritual crisis. This article will start from the historical background of Woolf’s history, explore the incentives that madness became a mental illness at that time, and because Woolf was also plagued by this mental illness, her stream of consciousness was written with her madness. The relationship between them is very important.Due to the status of a female writer, her mad writing is faced with thinking about gender, and she is also deeply concerned with gender confusion in the writing of men’s madness.Second, the situation in which madness is treated as a disease is actually a product of a power discourse. The treatment it faces cannot only be mitigated, but it can worsen it.This is precisely the other dilemma people faced at the time. This essay will analyze the two key figures in the novel,Septimus and Clarissa, thinking of them as two cases of typical madness and daily madness, trying to deconstruct the absolute separation of madness and reason. Finally, this article will also explore whether Woolf in quest for salvation through madness, and whether she herself is also seeking esthetic salvation for her madness through her novel creation.
