With the development of functional communicative approach in second language teaching,more and more scholars and teachers have noticed the importance of cultivating and developing learners' pragmatic competence.As an important part of pragmatics,theory of speech act has become a significant point cut for the research of learners' pragmatic competence.Combining with daily teaching practice,this paper selects the speech act of “ask for leave” to discuss the relevant pragmatic ability of learners.The results of the study show that,because of the limitation of Chinese level and the influence of their culture,Chinese learners' speech acts of “ask for leave”have obvious interlanguage pragmatic characteristics,which perform on beginning part,the auxiliary and the central part.However,with the improvement of Chinese level,the implementation of "ask for leave" speech acts of learners will be closer to native speakers.This study proves that the Chinese learners' pragmatic language ability will develop continuously with the improvement of the target language level.At the same time,it is urgent to improve the quality of Chinese pragmatic teaching according to the present situation of teaching.This paper is divided into the following 5 parts:First part is the introduction,mainly presents the relevant origin,theoretical foundation and study status of this research.In the second part,the author gives a definition to the speech act of“ask for leave”based on the previous research results and the characteristics of "ask for leave",and its structure sequence and strategy type are discussed in detail.In the third part,the author carries out a detailed description of this survey design and implementation.The fourth part is the emphasis of this paper.The author conducts result analysis of the survey on the basis of structure sequence framework discussed in chapter 2,investigates the implementation of“ask for leave”by different levels of Chinese learner and compares it with Chinese native speakers.The author sums up the pragmatic failure appeared in the speech act of“ask for leave”by Chinese learners in the end.The fifth part further discusses the development of Chinese learners' pragmatic competence on the basis of analyzing the research results.Firstly the author seeks for the factors affecting the development of Chinese learners' pragmatic competence from the inside,and then discusses the existing problems of pragmatic teaching in Chinese as second language from the perspective of external pragmatic input.Lastly the author brings forward comments and suggestions toward the development of Chinese pragmatic teaching from the aspects of teaching material,teachers and learners.
