On Huineng’s View Of Sudden Enlightenment

This article starts from the Huineng’s idea of “ Buddhist nature without south and north ”.The article is divided into three parts:The first chapter discusses intrinsic basis of Huineng’s Sudden Enlightenment—“ Nature is Buddha ”.Huineng carries forward Daosheng’s idea that icchahtika can be a Buddha,and thinks everyone can become Buddha.On the basis of traditional Buddhist thought such as prajna and nirvana,he puts forward“indiscrimination is Buddha nature”;Sudden Enlightenment needs to realize that“Our original nature is Buddha,apart from this nature there is no other Buddha ”.The second chapter focuses on the intention of Huineng’s Sudden Enlightenment--Once Epiphany,you will become a Buddha.There is only one Dharma.In terms of people’s puzzle and consciousness,there is different.So there is difference between the Sudden Enlightenment and gradual practice.Puzzled peple need eminent monks to guide and enlightend people view Nature by themselves.Huineng’s Insight covers Little Satori and Large Satori.He emphasized that once you practice,you are a Buddha.Whether it is before or after the Epiphany,it is necessary to practice.Once until mature practice period,insight Mind and viewing Nature,you will reach Buddha through Sudden Enlightenment.Meanwhile,Huineng points out: Don’t persist in pseudonym of Sudden Enlightenment and gradual practice.As long as you put your heart and soul into practice,Buddhist nature can be apparent and you could become a Buddha after Sudden Enlightenment.The third chapter mainly reveals corresponding practice of Huineng’s Epiphany.Epiphany needs to keep Zhixin(直心,straighforward mind)all the time,at the same time,entering“samadhi of oneself”.Insight has to be Self-Nature and Self-Redeem.Buddhism fully affirmed the subjectivity of all beings.Practice Buddhism has to rely on their own,not only to attain the mature phala by ourselves,but also to guide all beings leave suffering and attain bliss.With the Epiphany,the corresponding method of practice such as relying upon eminent monks,vowing the Four Grand Oaths,convertion to threetreasures of Nature,formless repentance,meditation and wisdom and so on is no order.Human beings should be self-nature and self-insight,practice yourself,view Mind every moment,implement practice at the moment.The core of Huineng’s Insight sets up No-thinking as aim,No-marking as body and Non-abiding as foundation.
