Because of its unique shape structure and vocal structure,Erhu is very rich in emotional expression of music. However,in daily life, the majority of non-music professional audiences still remain in the Erhu classic masterpiece “Two Springs Reflecting the Moon”.The emotions of Sad and vigorous become the main recognition of the musical performance of the Erhu. For non-music professional audiences,do they have a stereotypical impression of Erhu? Therefore, from the perspective of social psychology, this article explores whether non-music majors have stereotypes and their causes in the expression of Erhu expression through psychological experiments. The experiment is divided into two parts:Experiment 1 aims to explore whether non-music majors have stereotyped Erhu expression emotions. In this experiment,47 non-music students were tested through the SC-IAT paradigm for measuring implicit stereotypes.Experiments showed that stereotyped subjects existed objectively, and people were more inclined to use negative emotional terms to describe the instrument..Experiment 2 aims to explore the reason why Erhu has a stereotype in expressing emotions. In this experiment, the experiment of 2(music instrument: Erhu,violin)x2(emotion type: joy, sadness)was designed.Using the emotion seven-point intensity scale, the emotional judgments and emotional intensity of the two emotions of joy and sadness were measured.Examination of 60 non-music students showed that: In emotional judgment, participants can accurately determine the emotions of the two instruments. In terms of emotional intensity, the Erhu timbre is stronger than the violin timbre when expressing the same musical piece of sad emotion;when expressing the same musical piece of joy emotion, the violin timbre is stronger than the Erhu timbre.Experiment 2 shows that the reason why non-music majors are good at expressing stereotypes of negative emotions in Erhu is due to the timbre of Erhu.
