Report On Translation Of Intercultural Communication In Contexts(Chapter One)

In this translation project,the text chosen to be translated is the first chapter of Intercultural Communication in Contexts,co-written by Martin and Nakayama.With the advent of the Internet and the development of transnational tourism,more and more people realize the practicability and importance of the intercultural communication.Therefore,the translation of Intercultural Communication in Contexts plays a role in the development of international exchanges.In the process of translation,the translator encounters many attributive clauses in the original text.As we all know,attributive clauses are frequently used in English but are never seen in Chinese.This discrepancy greatly increases the difficulty of this translation practice.To solve this problem,this report bases on Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory and analyzes the translation principles put forward by Chinese scholar Sun Zhili,then concludes the translating methods of attributive clauses in the source text.When translating those attributive clauses,the translator has tried to put them in Chinese with prepositive attributives,independent sentences,coordinate clauses or adverbial clauses.This translation practice report analyzes and summarizes four translating methods of attributive clauses.During the researching process,the translator obtains a much deeper understanding of this field,hoping that this report will also provide some suggestions and inspiration for the translators of attributive clauses in the future.
