The thesis is a report on the translation of the book entitled Women between Submission and Freedom.There are five chapters in the book and the translator is responsible for chapter three,which mainly portrays the cultural oppressions of women in various countries in history,the social traditions and customs of prioritizing men over women,the misogynous statements and portrayals from great thinkers,the social and historical reasons of women‘s unjust treatments,and the author‘s advocacy for women‘s liberation.Under the guidance of Newmark‘s text typology theory and Vermeer‘s Skopos theory,the translator adopted translation strategies based on the text type and the purpose of the source text,and employed various translation techniques such as amplification,conversion,reconstructing,and reiteration.The translator not only sought to preserve the contents and linguistic features of the source text,but also tried to enhance the readability and acceptability of the target text.The translator also made an in-depth analysis of some typical translation cases,which classifies the difficulties of the translation,records the thinking process in the translation,and summarizes translation experience,especially in metaphor translation and discourse compensation,in the hope that they will provide references for translation practice in future.The report is divided into five parts: the first part is task description,including the background of the project,the source text of the project,an introduction to the author;the second part introduces two translation theories that are used to guide this translation practice;the third part is translation procedures,including translation preparation,the analysis of the text type and the language style of source text during the translation,and follow-up work after the translation;the fourth part is case study addressing the problems and solutions during the translation;The fifth part is the conclusion of the translation report.
