A Practice Report On Banquet Interpreting For Foreign Affairs

Over the past four decades,China has developed in a magnificent degree.Opening up has injected great power for our nation to become an important part in the international arena.Frequent exchanges and communications with regard to foreign affairs come along opening up.Therefore,it is necessary to attach more importance to the study of interpretation for foreign affairs.This report centers on the author's practice of the banquet interpretation for officials of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Sichuan Provincial People's Government and Italian delegation led by Mr.Ivan Scalfarotto,vice minister of Italian Ministry of Economy and Development.It aims to reflect on her performance and solve interpreting problems appeared in the process,hence offers reference to other interpreters and future practices.This report consists of four chapters.The first chapter presents introductions about the task,including task description,characteristics of the task and client requirements.The second chapter describes the task implementation which is composed of three procedures: pre-interpretation preparation,task process and evaluation.The third chapter is one of the most important chapters,which is the case study of interpreting practice.It had undertaken detailed dissections on problems in banquet interpreting.Then the author intends to find out why such problems would happen when it comes to banquet interpreting.The author gives some reflections about challenges in the task and puts forward coping strategies based on the case study.The last chapter concludes problems and coping strategies mentioned in previous chapters to offer solutions for future banquet interpreting practices.
