C-E Tour Commentary's Deliberate Metaphors Translation Strategies From The Perspective Of Ecolinguistics

As the rapid increase of inbound tourist arrivals,recent years,tourism has become an important driving force for national and regional economic growth.In this situation,tour commentary has become one of the most important methods for effectively transmitting cultural information.However,metaphors,especially deliberate metaphors in tour commentary cause great translation problems in the process.In addition,proper translation of metaphors will directly affect the acceptability of translated tour commentary and the visiting experience of visitors.Given that,the thesis studies the translation of deliberate metaphors in Chinese tour commentary at the perspective of ecolinguistics on the Tour Commentary of Pucheng County.Under the big background of the development of ecology,linguistics has also been the enlightenment of ecology and formed a new discipline,ecolinguistics,this is a cross discipline to study reciprocity and mutual influence between language and environment.Using the tour commentary of Pucheng County for corpus data,the thesis uses some of the basic theory of ecolinguistics,such as language idea of diversity,dynamic thought and the concept of the language environment to study it.The thesis aims to explore the problems related to the translatability of metaphor,language ecological environment,the sustainable development of language,and the author argues that the metaphor diversity in tour commentary conforms to the principles of language diversity,and can be translated into English.Given this,the author proposes several effective and practical translation techniques.In order to achieve the research objectives,this paper combines the quantitative analysis with qualitative analysis.First,it adopts a corpus-based approach to build a small-sized Chinese tour commentary corpus.Then,a fuzzy search via CUC_ParaConc is made to classify metaphors preliminarily.Subsequently,Metaphor identification procedure DMIP is used for a comprehensive and objective identification of metaphors in Chinese tour commentary based on the search results.According to Deliberate Metaphor Theory(DMT),metaphors are classified into deliberate and non-deliberate metaphors.Thus,the key part of the following translation discussion is become to deliberate metaphors.Based on the feature analysis of deliberate metaphors,this thesis lists a lot of translation case studies and then concludes four translation techniques guided by ecolinguistics,including retention of images,substitution of images,rephrasing and annotating of images and omission of images.Guided by ecolinguistics,this thesis studies metaphor translation in Chinese tour commentary and further conducts research on deliberate metaphors,of which the theoretical perspective and research object are comparably new.Moreover,the translation techniques summarized herein could improve enthusiasm of the tour commentary with some practical guidance and help them tackle the problems encountered during metaphor translation.
