| Nowadays,cultural exchanges among countries become increasingly frequent.People are also eager to learn more about some foreign cultures and to experience exotic customs.The Hidden Lives of Tudor Women: A Social History portrays the diverse lives enjoyed or endured by women living in Tudor England,which together constitute a multifaceted impression of female humanity of the period: a Tudor Everywoman.As the book attempts to deliver information to readers,it is an informative text with objective language and clear logic.There is no Chinese version at this time.Since the translation activity will inevitably lead to translation loss,translation compensation becomes a necessary means to reproduce the semantic,cultural and aesthetic factors of the source text as much as possible.At present,translation compensation has gradually aroused the concern of scholars.However,the scope of their research on compensation remains relatively narrow,mostly confining to the literary texts.In comparison,research on the compensation of informative texts is less and far from satisfying.With the text type theory by Peter Newmark as the basis,translation compensation strategy is applied in the translation of the informative text in this report.According to the text type,reader group and purpose of translation,and combined with the typical examples,the translation defaults occurred in translation process are analyzed in detail from cultural,pragmatic and aesthetic compensation.Different compensation methods are put forward to address different defaults.The compensation methods highlighted in the report can realize the function of informative text to the greatest degree,which covers explanatory translation,displaced compensation,employment of footnotes and the four-character structure and etc.It is beneficial to broaden the study of text type theory in the application of translation compensation,and meanwhile,to provide a reference for the translation of the informative text. |
