Parallel Scripts of the Western Regions is the first etymological dictionary in different languages(Chinese,Manchu language,Mongolian,Junggarl,Uygur)of China.It income the names of land,mountain,water and the main names of the Junggar in Xinjiang,Qinghai and Tibet.It is not only has important reference value for people to understand and understand Xinjiang in Qianlong period,but also is an indispensable document for later generations to study languages,history,geography and culture in Xinjiang.But the research on Parallel Scripts of the Western Regions is still weak,its research focuses on the linguistic point of view,most of them was research for the introductory content and did not notice the value of book on geography,literature and its influence on the frontier society of China.Using philological method,this thesis untangle background,time,authors,regulations,version,content and documentary value of Parallel Scripts of the Western Regions,based on it,try to systematically,accurately analyse the situation of language,history in Xinjiang is the aim of this thesis.There are six parts in the thesis: The introduction section mainly elaborates and outlines the significance and background of motivation,explaining the research train of thought.Chapter 2 describes background,time,purpose and authors.Firstly,the form of Parallel Scripts of the Western Regions is closely related to political situation and Records and Maps of Western Regions ’s formation,it was also mentioned in Parallel Scripts of the Western Regions ’s preface.Secondly,the thesis outlines purpose,like as a guide,consolidate frontier defense and make Qing’s power known.Lastly,briefly introduce authors and in cording of explanatory notes discusses the autobiography.Chapter 3 introduce the existing version of the Parallel Scripts of the Western Regions and hackle them by origin,comparison of the style and the content to select a better version.Chapter 4 mainly elaborates Parallel Scripts of the Western Regions ’s content,at the first,discuss classification system and the mode of explaining words,the second address the physical geography and human geography which content represents,in the end make some textual criticism on incorrect.Chapter 5 contracts Parallel Scripts of the Western Regions with another book.Chapter 6 analyse and comment on texts,Parallel Scripts of the Western Regions as a etymological dictionary of geographical names,its not only has wealthy academic and textual criticism value,but also has historical and realistic value.
