Social skills are particularly important for primary students' personality and social development,one's social skills have a profound effect on all aspects of life.According to review the studies of social skills and social skills assessment tools,the researcher finds lacking social skills assessment tools in mainland.Therefore,there is a great need for a localized professional social skills scale to better assess the pupils' social skills.In view of this,the present study introduced Social Skill Behaviors and Characters Scale for Elementary and Junior School(SSBCS),which were developed by Taiwan Yingru Meng and based on Stephens' theory of social skills.SSBCS includes selfrelated behaviors,work-related behaviors and interpersonal related behaviors,which is divided into teacher's edition,companion's edition and student self-assessment edition.It can assess the characteristics of social skills of primary and middle school students from different angles,so as to screen out students with social skills and behavior problems.SSBCS is widely used in Taiwan and has a good reliability and validity.This study conducted a pilot study of SBCCS among primary school students from grade 1 to 5 in mainland to examine the psychometric parameters of the scale.Firstly,the present study sorted out and summarized existing research and assessment tools related to social skills,understood the theoretical basis and importance of social skills.It had important implications for the analysis,interpretation,and application of the pilot scale studies.Secondly,the first trial of SBCCS,the study used item analysis(difficulty and discrimination),reliability analysis,and validity analysis to examine the psychometric parameters of the SBCCS.The result of reliability showed that in addition to the selfassessment scale of the younger grades,the internal consistency reliability of the subscales and whole scale of the teacher's edition,middle and high companions' edition,and self-assessment edition was between 0.643 and 0.943,and the odd-evell split reliability was between 0.623 and 0.975,which meant reliability is good.The validity analysis indicated that the correlation between all subscales and the whole scale were significant,and the correlation between the subscales were lower than the correlation between whole scales and the subscales,which meant the construct validity is good.Therefore,the teacher's edition,middle and high companions' edition,and selfassessment edition can be used to do the larger-scale test.Thirdly,the study used SSBCS in larger-scale to test its psychometrics indicators.The present study selected participants stratified by grade level,obtained a total of 778 data in self-assessment edition,738 data in companions' edition,429 data in teacher's edition.Based on these data,item analysis,reliability analysis,validity analysis and case analysis was performed to the SSBCS.The results of item analysis showed that discrimination was good,the scores of items were significantly related to the scores of subscales.Reliability analysis included the internal consistency reliability and split-half coefficient.Validity analysis included structure validity and criterion validity analysis.Structure validity analysis included the correlation between the subscale and the whole scale,the correlation between the total scores of the three scales,confirmatory factor analysis.Criterion validity analysis included differences in scores of participants from different sources,the correlation between academic performance and total score of the scale.The reliability analysis presented the results that the alpha coefficients were between 0.640 and 0.967,and the odd-evell split reliability were between 0.665 and 0.981.The structure validity analysis indicated that :1)the correlation between all subscales and the whole scale were significant,and the correlation between the subscales were lower than the correlation between whole scales and the subscales;2)significant correlation between total scores of self-assessment,companion,and teacher editions(r=0.430-0.522);3)fitting index in confirmatory factor analysis showed that the model fits good.The criterion validity analysis showed that:1)On the subscale and the whole scale,there were significant differences in the social skills of participants from common sources and those from special sources;2)academic performance were significantly related to the total score of each version scale(r=0.432-0.721).The case analysis indicated that Autism,hyperactivity,and mild mental retardation scores were consistent with the social behaviors observed in the classroom.In summary,the larger scale use of the scale indicated that the teacher's edition,middle and high companions' edition,and self-assessment edition has good reliability and validity,it can be used to assess and screen pupils' social skills development.Finally,this study analyzed the social skills defect rate of the survey sample and differences in Social Skills among Pupils of different sex,grade and type.In the three version scale,the results indicated that boys had higher social skills defect than girls;the social skills of boys significantly lower than girls';The grade differences in social skills in different scales were inconsistent.
