Upon Aesthetic Appreciation Of Lin Shu’s Chinese Translation Of Uncle Tom’s Cabin From The Perspective Of Reception Aesthetics

Lin Shu and Wei Yi translated Uncle Tom’ s Cabin in 1901.The publication of the book has caused a huge reverse and awakened people to establish the consciousness of protecting their country.Hans Robert Jauss proposed a new concept of reception aesthetics in 1967.The object of reception aesthetics has changed from the traditional text to the reader.the appealing structure of literature is the central part,which shows in five aspects: pronunciation and intonation,construction of meaning,rhetoric,image and artistic conception,thoughts and feelings.Each aspect has its own indeterminacy and blankness.It is the key to appeal the readers to analyze the works.This paper will be analyzed from the appealing structure which is the central part of reception aesthetics.We will respectively analyze Lin Shu’s Hei Nu Yu Tian Lu from the five aspects of appealing structure to reappear its aesthetic appreciation and explain how Lin Shu appeal the readers reconstruct the meaning and realize the literary value of works through his translation methods.The data collection of the paper completed through the ways of literature review,analysis and introduction,observation.This paper is divided into five parts: the first part is the introduction which introduces the research background,influence,content and literature review;the second part is the introduction of the literature which introduces uncle tom’s cabin and “Hei Nu Yu Tian Lu” briefly;the third part is the introduction to theory which introduces the theory of reception aesthetics and the appealing structure;the fourth part is the analysis of cases.We will analyze "Hei Nu Yu Tian Lu" with specific cases based on the five theory of the appealing structure;the fifth part is the conclusion which summarizes the whole paper,the disadvantages and innovation.In addition,we try to analyze the innovation from the following aspects.Firstly,the concern of Lin Shu and his works is mainly focused on himself and his works before.However,little attention has been paid to the readers.This paper will be analyzed from the appealing structure which is the central part of reception aesthetics.We will respectively analyze Lin Shu’s Hei Nu Yu Tian Lu from the five aspects of appealing structure to reappear its aesthetic appreciation.Next,Lin Shu breaks the traditional translation rules and uses addition,omission and adaption of translation.We will discuss his internalization with the theory of reception aesthetics and explain how he appeals the readers to satisfy the indeterminacy and blackness in order to achieve the readers’ horizon and reconstruct its meaning.Besides,the traditional translation theory mainly focuses on the text.It is simple to evaluate the criterion whether it is faithful to the original version or not.The paper appreciates Lin Shu’s translation from the perspective of reception aesthetics and tries to explore a new way of traditional translation schema.Finally,the object of study shifts from the traditional text to the reader and we replace the traditional pattern of “translator—translated text—readers” into “text-translators-translated text”.It is a kind of discard for the traditional schema.
