This paper systematically combs the relevant research literature about Aristotle's golden mean thought, and on this basis systematically expounds the connotation of Aristotle's golden mean thought. From the point of view of the history of social political system and social economic system in ancient Greece, this paper traces the historical origin of Aristotle's thought of the golden mean, and discusses the source of understanding of the thought of the golden mean from two aspects: the heritage of the wisdom of the sage and the foundation of the discipline. The nature of Aristotle's golden mean thought can be summed up by virtue and has the characteristics of duality and spirituality. At the same time,Aristotle discusses the ways and methods of realizing the golden mean and its application in politics and ethics. And then by comparing the golden mean and the Confucian mean, this paper sums up the similarities and differences between them, and generalizes the characteristics of Aristotle's thought of the golden mean.It is believed that the similarities between them are the similarity of the historical environment between the golden mean and the Confucian mean, the consistency of the subject and the pursuit of virtue, and the difference of the realization path, the value orientation and the target regime. The characteristics of Aristotle's thought of the golden mean lie in the pluralism of the way of realizing the golden mean, the externalization of the golden mean in practice and the inner choice of the golden mean.In the end,the author concludes the contemporary value of Aristotle's golden mean thought, and holds that the golden mean,as a method of balancing pleasure and pain, the ethical principle of ideal politics and the necessary condition to guarantee the utmost good,on the one hand,be beneficial to the internal harmony of the society. It is beneficial to the consideration of social goals and the social significance of the sustainable development of society,on the other hand,to the harmony of everyone, the harmony of spirit and flesh, and the personal significance ofstimulating and sublimating moral needs in practice.
