Under the guidance of Catford's translation shift theory, this report, based on the translation practice of Global Business Ethics(Excerpts),aims at conducting an analysis of typical translation phenomena and problems occurring in English to Chinese. At the same time, this report is designed to analyze the translation methods and specific skills and summarize the effectiveness and applicability of the theory in the informative text translation. The source text can be categorized as informative text since it aims to offer information and guidance to the readers with many case analysis and explanation by using standardized language, objective discussion and precise logic. The informative text lays more emphasis on accurate expression of meanings with many technical terms, long phrases, complex and long sentences. In order to achieve an adequate and equal-value expression to the greatest extent,Catford's translation shift theory, which attaches more importance to accurate semantic equivalence rather than formal correspondence, has been chosen to guide this translation practice. With the guidance of this theory, the report tries to analyze the specific cases in the translation from the perspectives of level shift and category shift. It is demonstrated that the theory is practical and effective in this translation practice. The significance of the report lies in the fact that it can offer some reference for further development of the translation of informative texts and studies in this field. It can also provide some enlightenment for business people and those who are interested in global business ethics.
