Since the multimedia technology is widely used in the field of education,it has broken the shackles of time and space, and has provided the convenience for self-directed learning of individuals. While discussing how to organize teaching materials to improve learners' performance, that whether the individual's emotional state before learning influences the learning has become a hot issue in the multimedia learning field. There are two opposing views on the relationship between emotion and learning. One is emotion-as-facilitator-of-learning hypothesis;the other is emotion-as-suppressor-of-learning hypothesis. The present research intended to explore the effect and mechanism of emotion before learning on academic performance in multimedia learning. This research included two experiments. The first experiment investigates the effect of two kinds of emotional states on learning outcomes;the second experiment explores the effect of three kinds of three emotions before learning on the learning process and learning outcomes. To investigate the effects of two different previous emotions on motivation and learning outcomes,as well the effect of motivational changes on emotions and academic performance, movie clips are used to induce participants' negative emotion or neutral emotion in experiment 1.Basis on experiment 1,we induce additional emotion, positive emotion,to explore the association between emotional state and learning outcomes. And the indexes of eye movement are applied to reveal the cognitive processing.Main conclusions are as followed:(1)There are two different directions on the influence of emotion on learning. In experiment 1,the previous negative emotion suppresses learning performance;in experiment 2,the negative emotional state promotes learning outcomes, and the negative emotion group has more fixation counts than neutral mood group.(2)Experimentally Induced Emotion can result in motivation change in the learning process. In experiment 1,the negative mood can cause the individual's learning motivation to decline. In experiment 2,the positive emotion causes the individual's learning motivation to rise.(3)Motivation change plays a regulatory role on the influence of emotion on learning outcome. In experiment 1,the interaction between motivational change and negative affect negatively influences learning outcome. In experiment 2,the interaction between motivational change and positive affect actively influences learning outcome.
