In remote and less developed western Gansu regions,teaching English is facing many great challenges,one of which is the students‘ poor English level.And the students don‘t have strong interest in English class and are clearly showing English learning anxiety,at the same time lacking effective English learning strategies strengthened students‘ English learning anxiety to some extent,so it greatly hindered the students' English language learning.So how to help the learners reduce their English language learning anxiety through the adoption of reasonable and effective learning strategies is the key to improve English teaching,the study is based on the purpose.This study tries to investigate the English learning anxiety level of the students in the school and analyze the relationship between English learning anxiety and English strategies,and the influential factors to English learning anxiety.To be specific,the present study will try to answer the following three questions:1.What‘s the current situation of English learning anxiety in the school and the differences among the students?2.In English class,what are sources of English language anxiety in senior middle schools?3.Do English learning anxiety reducing strategies work efficiently‘?In the research,75 senior three students from class 13 and 14 in the No.2 middle school of Jin Chang,Gansu Province in west China attended the questionnaire.Therefore,the author adopted Horwritz‘s Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale(FLCAS)and made use of the questionnaire in Ji Weisen‘ postgraduate thesis(2011)Study on Senior Eng1 ish Learning Anxiety of Three Students and its teaching Strategies,so the reliability and validity had been identified.There are 33 items in the questionnaire covering Communication Apprehension,Fear of Negative Evaluation and General Feeling of Anxiety.Through the questionnaire,classroom observations and communication with the students,the author has found out the students under English learning anxiety.According to the students‘ situation and combining the previous researches,the author have adopted five strategies: 1)Building up the Students‘ Self-awareness and Confidence;2)Improving the Students' Tolerance of Fuzzy Phenomenon in English;3)Constructing a Pleasant and Harmonious Classroom Learning Environment;4)Actively Carrying out Cooperative Learning;5)Improving Evaluation Method and Adjust the Students‘ View of Test.By contrasting the students‘ marks from the first test to the college entrance examination,the author has found that these five strategies worked well and helped the students keep a good state in English learning in some degree,and finally the students got satisfying results in the college entrance examination.The author expected to help the students to find the root causes of English learning anxiety and analyze the influence of one of the emotional factors on the students‘ English learning,so as to help students to overcome or reduce the English learning anxiety more effectively and finally to improve English teaching quality in this region.
