This thesis aims to study Pound’s translation of Chinese classical cultures. It mainly adopts the literature research method to get the relative data and information. In addition,in the process of writing, through qualitative analysis, comparative analysis as well as other analytical methods, this thesis mainly describes and interprets Pound’s rewriting of Chinese classical poetry under the manipulation of ideology, poetic and patronage.Through analyzing,it can be concluded that Pound’s transplantation of artistic concept in Chinese classical poems and using the condensed and precise language in his translation aim at confirming his view of “Energy in language”.Pound believes that the language in Chinese classical poetry is the just one he wants to seek. Therefore,in his translation,Pound even changed the images, forms and rhythm of the original poems to achieve the purpose of innovating western poetic language. In addition,Pound encounters the Chinese poetic thoughts via his translation of Chinese classical poems. He gets the main point of Taoist poetics through reading and analyzing Chinese poems, which conform to his own poetics, thus he adapted it and put forward “Absolute metaphor”,thus developing his poetics further. Therefore,it is clear that to illustrate Pound’s manipulation and rewriting of Chinese classical poems from the descriptive view, can not only explore his original purpose to do this, but also account for the factors influencing him in the process of his translation. In general, the thesis holds that illustrating Pound’s translation of Chinese classical poems can disclose his aim of using other cultures reasonably through manipulating and rewriting them. This can somehow guide readers to treat Pound’s translation of Chinese classical poems and its significance in Chinese and western cultural exchanges impartially and objectively. |
