V.S.Naipaul,born in the colonial society of Central America with Indian roots as well as British nationality,is one of the representatives of the post-colonial era of the mid-20th century.He constantly identified and positioned himself due to hybridity and cultural diversity,leaving him not sentimentally attached to his homeland ant longer just because it was not truly homeland.As a result,he began to wander around the world,becoming a world citizen to find his spiritual home.His footprints was all over Asia,Europe,Africa and America continent.During his wandering,he created a large number of works,ranging from the novel to the travel notes.His works mainly showed the control and damage,the western countries to the third world and multicultural conflict fusion during the post-colonial period,profoundly revealing the difficulties on people’s life difficult and "pain disease" on thoughts.Miguel Street is a type of autobiographical memory.By describing people who live a tough life in the Miguel Street,it showed the colonized people were on the edge of irreducible and speechless.They had no choice but to be aliened and isolated,which produce different scenes of tragedy.This paper attempts to explore the tragic nature of"Miguel Street" from the scope of the post-colonial vision and it is divided into three parts:Introduction,Body and Conclusion.In the introduction part,the author mainly demonstrates the development of Naipaul and the research status of Naipaul at home and abroad,along with clarifying the research objectives and methods.Body part is composed of three chapters.The first chapter mainly aims at tragic analysis,including tragic spirit,consciousness of tragedy and so on.The second part is the main body of this dissertation,which is a through analysis of two major aspects of the state of tragedy—the loss of language value,the loss of family value.Trying to analysis the deep cultural meaning of tragic.The third chapter talks about the tragic roots of Miguel Street,focus on the personal identity and the social history.The last section is conclusion,which expresses the author’s ideas of locating and rebuilding the cultural in the third world and the introspection of V.S.Naipaul ’s aspiration about the spiritual home.
