Suspending Suspicious Transactions is a joint study by the World Bank and the Egmond Group, formed to conduct a survey that relates to the power of suspending suspicious transactions by the Financial Information Unit. The source text uses highly professional expression, and accurate terminology and places high demands on the translators' legal knowledge.Passive voice and complex sentences are applied in the source text to make the content objective and precise. The translated version focuses on conveying information as well as achieving the acceptance of target readers. This translation report is based on the translated version of the first two chapters of Suspending Suspicious Transactions.Utilizing translation criteria that includes faithfulness and expressiveness, the translator integrates literal translation with free translation, adopting translation techniques such as shift, combination, unpacking and division, which are used to apply translation techniques in English-Chinese translation in legal and financial contexts. The main purpose is to unpack the invisible meaning of the text and apply these translation techniques to the translation of attributive clauses or complex sentences, aiming to improve the consistency and accuracy of the translated version. It is hoped that this report provides translators with some useful techniques for translating legal documents as well as improves the translator's ability in applying translation theory to practice.
