It has been generally accepted that writing,listening,reading,and speaking are the four basic skills of English learning.As one of the four basic skills,English writing is important to senior high school students.It is not only a task of an exam,but also an important way for students to express their own opinions.A well-organized writing can convey one's thought to the readers effectively.And it helps students to express their ideas,feelings and opinions without getting perplexed.However,for a long time,the current situation of writing has been far from satisfactory.Teachers always stuck to the traditional teaching mode,they taught students to learn vocabulary,grammar rules,spelling and they even taught students to learn how to put sentences together to make a passage,but the structure and the coherency of a composition were always ignored.Thus,this kind of teaching mode changed the classroom into a dull place where students learned something mechanically.No wonder most students lost interest in English writing.This is especially a common phenomenon among students in rural areas.Different from the urban students,rural schools' students lack advanced teaching facilities and they don't have abundant teaching resources.So,compared with urban students,they are in great need of a different teaching mode to improve their English writing skills and to arouse their interest in English writing.The Interactive Teaching Mode,as a new teaching mode,appeared in the 1970s.This teaching mode changes the traditional teacher-centered way of teaching into the student-centered way of teaching.Students can interact with each other in real writing situation.In this way,not only can students improve their writing skills but also they will become more interested as well as more creative in English writing.Experts at home and abroad have done lots of researches on the Interactive Teaching Mode and have made great achievements.However,most of the studies focused on students in colleges and students in urban areas.Few researches have been done on students in rural areas.In order to test the effectiveness of the application of the Interactive WritingTeaching Mode to writing teaching in rural senior high schools,the author conducted an experiment,The author randomly selected two classes from Hongshi Senior High School:one is an experimental class and the other a controlled class.The author adopted the Interactive Teaching Mode to teach writing in the experimental class,and use the traditional way to teach writing in the controlled class.Before the experiment,the author gave an examination to test the writing levels of the students in the two classes.The results showed that the writing levels of the students in the two classes were almost the same.The experiment lasted for 4 months.Besides the experiment,the author also conducted the pre-questionnaire and the post-questionnaire to know students' different attitudes and interest toward the Interactive Teaching Mode.After the experiment,the students from both classes were required to take the final writing examination.The results of their writing tests showed that the writing scores of the students in the Experimental class are higher than the scores of the students in the Controlled class.According to the analysis of the results of the tests,the questionnaires and the interviews,the author found that the English writing competence of the students in rural senior high schools can be enhanced by using the Interactive Teaching Mode in English writing teaching.And the students have changed their attitudes toward English writing.Also their confidence and interest in writing have been improved a lot.Without doubt,the application of the Interactive Teaching Mode in English writing teaching in rural senior high schools is more effective than the traditional teaching mode.In order to test the effectiveness of the Interactive Teaching Mode in English writing,the author also designed various interesting writing classroom activities that are suitable for rural senior high school students.The author hopes that this research can provide some reference for any further study in this field.
