This report takes the book The Complete Guide to the Gap Year as its translation material.The book contains two main parts.Part one gives us a detailed introduction to the fundamentals of the gap year,and part two lists various optional gap year programs for us.There are many dashes in the book The Complete Guide to the Gap Year,and how to translate these dashes properly becomes a difficult point in translation.We all know that dash falls into the category of punctuation.And punctuation marks can not be ignored,though they are small in size.Letter symbol and punctuation marks are the two components of the modern written language,and they supplement each other in the written language.Thus,our special attention should be paid to the translation of punctuation in translation.And this report analyzes and summarizes the translation strategies of dash in English-Chinese translation.This report can be divided into four chapters.Chapter one gives a brief introduction to the translation material,and the importance of properly using punctuation marks,especially dash.Chapter two describes the translation procedures,including pre-translation preparation,process of translation and proofreading.Chapter three first summarizes when dash is used both in Chinese and English written language,and then it makes a comparison between Chinese dash and English dash,then it analyzes how to translate sentences with dashes in the book The Complete Guide to the Gap Year;and finally,it makes a brief summary of the translation strategies of dash in English-Chinese translation.Chapter four reviews and summarizes the whole translation task.
