Abstract/Summary:
This is an English-Chinese translation report which is based on the author’s translation practice of the first and third chapter of Wave:In Pursuit of the Rogues,Freaks,and Giants of the Ocean(hereinafter referred to as Wave)written by an American novelist Susan Casey.On the basis of case analysis of some difficulties the author of the report met in translation,he analyzes the application of George Steiner’s Hermeneutics Theory in his translation practice.This translation report is divided into five parts:description of the translation task,description of the translation process,literature review,case analysis and conclusion.In the first part,the author of the report introduces the source of the translation task and the significance of it.In the second part,the author gives a thorough description of translation process,including pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.The third part is literature review in which the author of the report makes introduction to the development of George Steiner’s Hermeneutics Theory.In the fourth part,the author analyzes the difficulties he met in translation process(aggression,incorporation and compensation),under the guidance of George Steiner’s Hermeneutics Theory.At the same time,the author analyzes the importance of George Steiner’s Hermeneutics theory in the guidance of problem solving which translator should focus on.In the last part,the author of the report summaries the lessons he learned in the translation process and some limitations.
