Evidentiality In English Discourses Of Chinese Dream From The Perspective Of Positive Discourse Analysis

Evidentiality indicates information sources and speakers' degrees of commitment to the factual status of the information.In spite of recent surge of researches on evidentiality in news discourses and the contributions made in previous related studies,the studies on evidentiality in news discourses are not enough.Compared with the previous studies,the study offers a new perspective in the following aspects.First,the review of previous studies on news discourses has shown that few researches have concerned evidentiality in the Chinese Dream news discourses,and the positive analysis of the Chinese Dream has been conducted in discourses of the Chinese Dream mainly based on the appraisal system.Second,collocation analysis enables us to investigate the connotations of the Chinese Dream through evidentials in news discourses of the Chinese Dream.Thus,it is significant to combine evidentiality with Positive Discourse Analysis and collocation analysis in the Chinese Dream discourses.The thesis,based on a corpus of 127 English news discourses of the Chinese Dream,first presents the distribution of evidentiality in the English discourses of the Chinese Dream and then investigates the connotations of the Chinese Dream from the perspective of Positive Discourse Analysis according to the statistics of information sources and evidential collocates.The findings are presented as follows.First,there are abundant evidentias in the English discourses of the Chinese Dream but different types of evidentials distribute differently and have different linguistic realizations,which reveals the typical way in which the reporter constructs knowledge of the Chinese Dream.Second,evidentiality in English discourses of the Chinese Dream contributes to constructing the connotations of the Chinese Dream through various evidential collocates,such as the achievement of the nation,the fulfillment of Chinese people and the international cooperation and so on.Furthermore,the connotations of Chinese Dream are interpreted from two perspectives: the National Chinese Dream and the Individual Chinese Dream according to the detailed study of information sources of evidentiality.The current study,on the one hand,may enrich people's understanding of the Chinese Dream and it is complementary to the study of English news discourses of the Chinese Dream;on the other hand,it helps speakers or reporters choose evidentiality properly in English discourses of the Chinese Dream so as to establish a harmonious society at the language level.
