Chipped stone implements was one of the most important tools for exploiting and utilizing the nature resources by ancient populations from the Paleolithic Age to the Neolithic Age,even to the Bronze Age.There has been an increasing study of chipped stone implements as a substitute to ancient human behavior. It is generally believed that the quality and function of the ground stone tools were more advanced than those of the chipped stone implements. However, both of them complemented each other rather than substituted.More and more ground stone tools can be found in the Neolithic sits in China, and the number of chipped stone implements is still high during the Bronze Age.During the Yangshao culture period, although the number of chipped stone implements declined, its characteristics and style is worth to study.By analyzing the samples of the chipped stone implements that belongs to the Yangshao cultural relics in the middle Yellow River Valley, the results show that the proportion of the chipped stone implements had decreased.Meanwhile, the characteristics and style of the chipped stone implements had undergone revolutionary changes by researching and statistics analyzing the representative samples of chipped stone implements. With the development of the technology, ancient populations had the ability to control the preciseness and diversification of the shape of chipped stone implements. In addition,as a driving force for the agricultural expansion, various types of the chipped stone implements had been created, such as stone knives with gaps on both sides and with handles. The declination of the proportion of the chipped stone implements was due to the emergence of complex society rather than technical factor.
