A Report On Interpreting For Tianjin Hybrid Electrical Vehicle Technical Seminar

The development of hybrid vehicles have become an irresistable trend.This research profoundly affects all aspects of social development.The author was invited as an interpreter for the French professor Walter Lhomme and was responsible for escort interpreting and conference interpreting.Therefore,the case study of this paper is divided into two parts,one is the professional sentences of EMR,the other is the escort interpreting sentences of the professor.In this seminar,the French professor took EMR as the core concept to explore the history and development tendency of hybrid vehicles.In this interpretation practice,in view of the shortage of interpretation materials and video this kind of conferences,through the theoretical choices,theoretical framework,theoretical guidance practice and experience summary,based on the relevant theories of cognitive pragmatics,the author enhance explanatory power,rationality and effectiveness of translation theory.In addition,under the EMR background,the author attempts to provide an interpreting process for hybrid car seminar simultaneous and consecutive that based on the combination of linguistics and translation theory.The syntax of the seminar is relatively simple,but the characteristics of the automobile terms are particularly prominent which puts forward higher requirements for the interpreter's communicative competence,professional quality,academic level,and cultural background.Because the professional terms are too subtle and abstract,especially the terms in EMR,it is difficult to interpret the operation thought,procedure and method of this interpretation completely by relying solely on translation theories.In order to break the stalemate and expand the development channels for interpreting,it is necessary to introduce linguistics to explain the "why" and "how" of interpretation.Before and during the interpretation process,the author consulted a lot of monographs and literatures on linguistic theory,as well as the theoretical treatises and literatures on the international symposium.Combining with the theories of mental philosophy,cognitive pragmatics,functional equivalence and so on,this paper makes a cognitive analysis and pragmatic interpretation of interpretation content,interpretation strategy,interpretation method and interpretation effect.This practice report lay the ground for metaphor and metonymy translation under the perspective of cognitive pragmatics of hybrid vehicles' terms.It is necessary to adjust the original text and adopt strategies such as literal translation,free translation,plus and menus and conversion of word class.During the process of interpreting,the author insists on the principle of faithfulness in cognitive meaning,expressiveness in meaning expression,elegance in wording and phrasing,and strives to promote the implementation of the interpretation strategy with the cognitive intention and guide the application of the interpreting skills.The organic combination of linguistics and translation highlights the level of knowledge and professionalism that interpreters should possess.It aims to improve the level of translators and to develop effective literature for International Symposium.
