C-E Consecutive Interpreting From The Perspective Of Relevance Theory:A Case Study Of Your Parents In A Nursing Home?(qipa Talk)

Qipa Talk is one of the phenomenal talent shows in China produced by i QIYI.COM.It is a pioneering show in the form of debates broadcast online aiming at finding the most articulate person in China.Therefore,debaters in the show always deliver themselves with sharp expressions and novel ideas,making the audience echo with them.The debate topic of Season 4 Episode 9 broadcast in 2017 is“Should or shouldn't we support our parents when they wish to live in nursing home?” which is typically oriental.As a result,difficulties may occur to the interpreter when interpreting this episode consecutively into English.This report illustrates the interpreting process from the perspective of Relevance Theory put forward by Sperber and Wilson(Sperber and Wilson,2001).The report consists of four chapters: Chapter One is the introduction to the task including the information of Qipa Talk and Relevance Theory;Chapter Two discusses four types of major difficulties in interpreting process: culture-loaded words,Internet catchwords and dialect words;Chapter Three illustrates how the four interpreting methods,i.e.,simplification,paraphrasing,dialect equivalents,literal translation and annotation can be adopted to tackle the difficulties respectively;Chapter Four is the conclusion of the report.It concludes that a qualified interpreter needs to interpret in a most relevant way on the basis of understanding the context and the knowledge background of the hearers.It is hoped that the four interpreting methods proposed in this report may serve future interpreting on similar tasks.
