With more language contact during the globalization of higher education,English has been used as a lingua franca in the international communication for universities, which brings about the language competition issues to universities in the fields of education, research, community service, culture, global cooperation, etc.Ad hoc,Englishization has emerged in those aspects to universities in non-English speaking countries, where higher requirement for language planning appears for the imbalance between national languages and international languages, particularly English. To address the influence from higher education internationalization towards language planning and illustrate its substance, feature and effect, this paper conducts a case study of the University of Helsinki,Finland.Analysis of the text and practice of the Language Policy of the University of Helsinki From Guidelines to Practice: Towards Functional Multilingualism shows that the University of Helsinki has performed a state planning and acquisition planning by combining the internationalization and the different university functions, including education, research, community service, and administration. The existing policy features functional multilingualism, sustained monitoring system, stress on unification of terminologies and emphasis on responsibility management, meanwhile, however,is short of completed monitoring system, clear responsible parties, and explicit rules. The study finds that in the process of higher education internalization,a reasonable university language planning should be an integrated project which is implemented by the university as the language planning subject and contains the language policies, language ideology and language practice in different fields, such as education, administration and public domains. The essential features include relativity of policies, standardization of implementation, explicit arrangement of functions,inter-disciplinity,and completed monitoring system.
