| Employing a participant observation approach,this paper analyzes the dissemination of King Gesar’s epic singers,their categories,experiences,and the genres of their songs to explore the preservation work of King Gesar in Yushu.The introduction part focuses on the current preservation work of king Gesar both in and outside China,the importance for such selection of topic,and research methodology used in this paper.The first chapter mainly introduces the historical situation of Yushu area and the history of King Gesar’s epic singers in Yushu.The second chapter mainly introduces the distribution and classifications of all the Gesar’s epic singers in Yushu through comprehensive survey research and using the form of tables and maps.The third chapter elaborates Gesar’s epic singers acting experiences,also discusses the meaning of their own root Guru’s enlightenment and guidance,especially several unique bards in Yushu,such as Atro Tenpa Gyaltsen,who is from Batang township,Yushu county.He is acquiring two identities both in Divinely inspired bard and Divinely inspired-by-mirror bard.The fourth chapter,based on the traditional King Gesar’s early version of the six major characteristics,specifically through the lyrics,the plot,the clan or the tribe,the tune,the wording,the ancient words to analyzing and comparing on the ten latest singing scripts from Yushu,《Lci rong lug rdzong》《Rgya gar byur rdzong》《Phyi gling mdzo dzong》《Lo khri gco’d rdzong》《A chen ’brong rdzong》《Rta rgyugs rgyan ’joag》《Skya Lo’I rta rgyug》《Lha gling gab rtsed dgu skor》《Rgya nag ri bo rtse Lnga》《Rta rna dgon》,it also explores whether these versions meet the standard of the traditional version of the King Gesar’s epic.The last chapter mainly introduces the preservation,inheritance and innovation of King Gesar culture in yushu area. |
