The posture of “treading” in Hui Nationality can be divided into two parts: the form of martial arts and the form of dancing.Treading in martial arts is a folk art developed from Chinese boxing 100 years ago,while treading in dancing of troupes is an original dancing form.The characteristic of Islamic culture is embedded in the martial art treading,while dance treading is the creative development of Hui culture.The differences between these two forms can be summed up as the difference between martial arts and dancing.The former one turns the boxing in martial art into a kind of entertainment and plays a role of fit-keeping and artistic sports;the latter,as a dance of the Hui nationality is performed and appreciated as an art,mixing the strength and manly beauty.Based on the fieldwork of these two forms of treading in Jingyuan County,Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region,this paper discusses and analyzes the historical origins,social backgrounds and classifications of them.This paper focuses on the contrastive study of the cultural connotation,morphological characteristics and performance program of the two kinds of “treading”.Meanwhile,it makes a reflection on the development and inheritance of the "treading" art in the contemporary era,and puts forward some suggestions for the survival of the “treading” art.
