Abstract/Summary:
Adolescence was a special and critical period in life.A series of rapid development of Physiology and psychology caused adolescent individual have more risk-taking behavior(such as smoking,drinking,drug abuse,illegal crimes,etc.).Risk-taking can harm adolescents themselves healthy development,endanger the healthy of others and even cause adverse social effects.According to the problem-behavior theory,Risk-taking behaviors of adolescents can be influenced by the personality system and the environmental system.Based on PBT theory,this study examined the effects of self-esteem level(individual factors),positive peer pressure(environmental factors)on adolescents’ risk-taking.The present study used experimental methods,by surveying senior high school students of Henan province with Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale(SES)and the“The Stoplight Driving Game ” explored the effects of self-esteem level,positive peer pressure on adolescents’ risk-taking.This study includes two experimental designs.Experiment 1 examined the effects of self-esteem,positive peer pressure on adolescents’ risky driving risk-taking.Based on experiment 1,experiment 2 further explored the effects of self-esteem,positive peer pressure,and familiarity of peers who were put positive peer pressure with adolescent on adolescents’ risk-taking.The main results and conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)The level of self-esteem has a significant negative predictive effect on adolescents’ risk-taking behavior;(2)Positive peer pressure reduced adolescents’ risk-taking behaviors;(3)No significant prediction effect on adolescents’ risk-taking was found between familiar peers or unfamiliar peers who were put positive peer pressure with adolescent;(4)Compared with high self-esteem adolescents,positive peer pressure reduced low self-esteem adolescents’ risk-taking;(5)Compared with unfamiliar peers,the familiar peers put positive peer pressure reduced low self-esteem adolescents’ risk-taking;...
