A Research On The Guangxi Veterinary Work In The New Gui Clique Period (1925-1949)

During the period of the New Gui Clique,animal husbandry in Guangxi developed rapidly and occupied an important position in the agricultural and commercial economy.Meanwhile,animal epidemic was very rampant in the province,seriously affecting the national economy and people’s livelihood and the subsequent realization of “Anti-Japanese War and the establishment of new China”.Therefore,the government of Guangxi Province had made great efforts to promote the construction of veterinary work,continuously established and sounded veterinary management agencies,issued laws and regulations on the prevention and control of animal plague,carried out animal plague investigations,tried to hold livestock insurance,implemented funds,and comprehensively implemented policies to promote animal epidemic prevention and control,and had achieved remarkable results.In order to cultivate veterinarian talents,the government of Guangxi Province had combined basic education with short and fast training through the establishment of Guangxi University animal husbandry and veterinary department,Guangxi advanced agricultural vocational school and other new schools,Guangxi animal husbandry and veterinary training school and other veterinary training classes,and the selection of students to study abroad.Combining both theoretical and practical education,the government had trained a large number of veterinary talents with real knowledge.In addition,as a necessary supplement to veterinary education,the government intensfied its efforts to expand the social publicity and popularization of veterinary knowledge,through holding various competitions and exhibitions.In order to improve the development of veterinary scientific research,the government of Guangxi Province had established a series of veterinary research institutions.Guangxi livestock Care Institute,Agricultural College of Guangxi University and Central Animal Husbandry Laboratory and other institutions actively carried out veterinary scientific research,and had achieved important achievements in drug development and infectious diseases research.Various scientific research activities focused on the actual needs of the development of veterinary work,and laid a certain foundation for the scientific prevention and control of animal epidemics.However,due to continuous war,lack of funds,shortage of qualified personnel,coupled with lagging transportation,the low efficiency of government work,the development of Guangxi veterinary work during the New Gui Clique also had obvious deficiency.In spite of this,the government of Guangxi Province held veterinary work vigorously,not only promoted the transformation of Guangxi veterinarian from traditional to modern,but also laid an important foundation for the further development of Guangxi’s veterinary work after the founding of the People’s Republic of China,and provided some enlightenment for the development of today’s veterinary work.
