Transformation is an ancient and typical literary motif.It has been a common plot unit and structural model of the story.For its historical inheritance,the transformation stories contain the thinking characteristics of human childhood and the experience of the ancestors in exploring the world,which subtly influences the life-style and thinking model of later generations.At present,many scholars at home and abroad have realized the uniqueness of transformation stories,tried to interpret them from the perspective of ecocriticism,to discover the natural view of the stories.However,in most cases,the correlational researchers ignored the metaphorical function of transformation,through which we can find the natural connotation and ecological significance of transformation stories.Therefore,based on the previous researches,this thesis will focus on the deformed features of the traditional transformation stories,in line of the ecocriticism,parallel study,impact study,narratology and folklore,to discuss the representative of the Chinese and Western transformation stories,which are Supernatural Tales from the Liao Chamber by Pu Songling and The Metamorphoses by Ovidius.,to explore the connotation of natural concepts of the stories,and to remind people of the forgotten ecological memories.The paper is divided into six parts.The introduction mainly summarizes the research background and significance.The first chapter mainly explains that the early transformation stories contain the concept of awe of nature,which will show differences in the changing stories of different ethnic groups with cultural changes.The masterpieces of the Chinese and Western metamorphosis stories in the period of cultural change,Supernatural Tales from the Liao Chamber and The Metamorphoses contain similar and different views of nature.The second chapter focuses on the commonness of view of nature in Supernatural Tales from the Liao Chamber and The Metamorphoses,which is reverence to Nature.Through analysis,it is illustrated that the essence of reverence to nature means reverence to life,which includes the expectation of the eternal life of the individual and the harmony of life community.The third chapter focuses on the differences in natural views between the two works.Through detailed analysis,it is illustrated that the objects of awe in the story of Chinese and Western metamorphosis are Heaven and Fate,which shaped the different views of nature.The spirituality nature view in the Chinese transformation stories has the characteristics of conforming to nature.Western wildness nature views are manifested as respecting nature.The fourth chapter mainly explains the meaning of nature in the story.Spirituality nature view is bred in Chinese spiritual landscapes and spiritual landscape literature.Wildness nature view has influenced western wilderness and wilderness literature.So as a local ecological cultural resource,they can provide multiple solutions to the current problems and diverse theoretical development thinking to the ecological literary criticism.The conclusion part summarizes the full text,and explains the unique meaning of the natural ideas contained in the stories of Chinese and Western metamorphosis for the modern society that has fallen into a serious ecological crisis after disenchantment.
