A Study Of The Dramatic Feature In Pirandello’s Short Stories

This paper analyzes the short stories of Luigi Pirandello.Luigi Pirandello is the forerunner of the modernist literature in the 20th century,but previous researches have usually focus on analyzing Pirandello’s dramatic works,ignoring Pirandello’s outstanding creations in novels.In Pirandello’s novel writings,esecially the short stories are not only the writer’s skilled subjects,but also have accmulated a lot of materials for the writer ’ s dramatic creation,and Pirandello also use the dramatic techniques in the creations of novels in turn,have achieved literary achievements that are not inferior to drama,this should not be ignored by academic community.This paper cuts through the dramatic elements such as dramatic actions and dramatic situations,from the perspective of the dramatization of the narrative strategy to explore Pirandello’s short stories,and combines Pirandello’s dramatic works and his theories of drama,in order to discover the artistic style of the short stories of Pirandello.The paper can be divided into three chapters.The first chapter is the dramatic elements in Pirandello’s short stories,it is divided into three parts.Firstly,it focuses on the dramatic features of novels as an important theoretical basis for the dissertation.Secondly,it analyzes the dramatic adaptations of Pirandello’s short stories,attempts to summarize the characteristics of the adaptation.At the end,it analyzes the significance and artistic effects of the dramatic elements from the constructions of dramatic actions and dramatic situations in the short stories.In second chapter,on the basis of the preceding text,penetrate into the structure of the text and uses the research methods of narratology to analyze the dramatic characteristics of narrative tactics in Pirandello’s short stories,through the dramatization of narrative perspectives and the frequently used Camera Angle makes the plots of the novel highly concentrated,and the characters are as vivid as the stage spotlight.In terms of narrative time,many of Pirandello’s short stories are succinct and lively,with a clear rhythm and focus on the arrangement of the scene.They were lively and direct,and they often ended abruptly at the end of the conflict,and have endless impression.The last chapter following the discussion of the first two chapters,summarizes the artistic style of Pirandello’s short stories.For Luigi Pirandello,the style is the sincere creative personality that Pirandello has followed throughout his life and use the dramatic techniques which have shaped various newfangled and bizarre characters,at the same time,the overall style of novel works created under the guidance of his original humor theory.Pirandello shows the "disharmony" of the various interpersonal relationships in the short stories by setting up dramatic situation,and by the humorous treatment of theatrical action and dramatic dialogue to makes the short stories become comic.Combining with the unique creative personality of the writer,analyzes the reasons for the dramatic features of the short stories and its influences on Italian literature.
