A Report On Liaison Interpreting Of Film Co-production In Ya'an Sichuan

Due to rapid growth of the film industry,China has won the favor of many foreign studios and investors,which has contributed to the emergence of film co-production.Subsequently,the new form of film shooting is accompanied with the need for interpreters.In September 2016,the author participated,as a liaison interpreter,in the preparation and on-site shooting of the co-production team in Ya'an studios.In the report,the author analyzes the liaison interpreting in this film shooting practice,and discusses the specific difficulties in terms of terminology and technical sentence structure,cultural differences and interpreter's subjectivity.To address the difficulties on the linguistic level,the author adopts interpreting techniques such as addition,visualization and consultation.Meanwhile,cross-cultural communication and multiple roles of interpreter are also discussed in this report.Referring to the theory of interpreter's subjectivity,the author elaborates three relevant factors in the theory: visibility consciousness,empowerment consciousness and non-neutrality standpoint,and employs three factors to solve non-linguistic challenges in interpreting.The author holds that interpreting takes place in cultural,social and linguistic contexts,thus expectation to interpreters has been affected profoundly.Compared with the traditional views on interpreter's subjectivity,the report suggests the interpreters give full play to their subjectivity in the interpreting process so as to promote the results of communication between the two parties.Through case study,the report verifies the reasonable existence of interpreter's subjectivity in liaison interpretation.The author hopes that the interpreter could make endeavors to make full use of their self-motivation to promote a successful result of communication between two sides.More importantly,the lessons present in the report should all be learned by the interpreters who would like to work in the film industry.Besides,the author provides some sincere suggestions ranging from preparation,interpreting techniques to professional qualities of interpreters.Film interpreting requires not only relevant professional knowledge,but also ability to deal with the problem of cultural conflict.To enhance one's occupation ethnics and strengthen physique could outperform others in the film industry.
