With the development of educational reform, there is a growing role stress on college English teachers, which leads to different levels of counterproductive work behaviors among them.Teachers’ counterproductive work behaviors not only affect their physical and psychological health greatly, but also influence the normal teaching in colleges. So far foreign researchers have made great achievements on the research of role stress and counterproductive work behaviors, however, the related researches in China are still at the initial stage, and most Chinese researchers focus on enterprise employees, moreover, there are few empirical researches on college teachers’ role stress and counterproductive work behaviors. Therefore, this research chooses college English teachers as its research objects, and conducts an empirical study on the relationship between role stress and counterproductive work behavior, with the purpose to provide pertinence suggestions to school leaders in order to reduce college English teachers’ counterproductive work behaviors. The documentary method, questionnaire method, statistical analysis method and interview method are adopted in this research.According to the role stress scales from John R.Rizzo,Robert J.House,Sidney I.Lirtzman and Wang Jing, the predictive role stress questionnaire of college English teachers is designed in this research.Besides,on the basis of related laws, regulations and the teachers’deviated behavior scales from Lin Lixin and Lu Ping, the predictive counterproductive work behavior questionnaire of college English teachers is designed in this research. And the formal role stress questionnaire and formal counterproductive work behavior questionnaire of college English teachers are revised according to the results of the predictive questionnaires. In this research, the researcher distributes 650 questionnaires, including 350 predictive questionnaires and 300 formal questionnaires, objectively investigates English teachers from 6 colleges in Changsha.SPSS 17.0 statistical software is used to analyze the quantitative data collected in the research, and the statistical analysis steps are as follows:1)Descriptive statistical analysis method is applied to analyze the overall situation of college English teachers’ role stress and counterproductive work behavior.2)Independent samples T-test is applied to explore the differences in role stress and counterproductive work behavior in terms of gender, marital status and post,in addition, the differences in role stress and counterproductive work behavior in consideration of teachers’ age, degree and working years are.analyzed through analysis of variance method.3)Pearson correlation analysis method is used to explore the correlation between role stress and counterproductive work behavior.4)Stepwise multiple regression analysis method is used to give a further verification to the causal relationship between role stress and counterproductive work behavior. The research shows that there is a significant positive correlation between college English teachers’ role stress and counterproductive work behavior, and there is a significant positive correlation between role stress and counterproductive work behavior on partial dimensions. Moreover, college English teachers’role stress has a positive predictive effect on counterproductive work behavior. There are differences in college English teachers’ role stress and counterproductive work behavior on demographic variables.
