As the society develops,it is of great importance and realistic significance to have a good command of English.At present,English education has an extensive popularity in China.Many students start learning English from primary school and for Chinese senior high school students,English is an important compulsory course which possesses 150 points and will affect students' being enrolled to universities to a great extent.The English Curriculum Standards for the Senior Middle School aims at developing students learning strategies as one of its development objectives.The increasing demand for vocabulary is quite obvious in the English Curriculum Standards.Vocabulary learning exists in the whole process of language acquisition.For high school students,mastering the vocabulary is the basis of learning English well.However,for many students,learning vocabulary is a very difficult task.The approach to the improvement of English language learners' vocabulary learning efficiency is an issue that needs much attention.Senior One students are in a transitional stage from junior high school to senior high school.The number and difficulty level of the vocabulary are both increased.Therefore,students in this phrase need vocabulary learning strategies in particular.These years,many researchers,especially many high school teachers,have done much work in order to improve vocabulary learning both at home and abroad.However,the English vocabulary learning strategies which are suitable for Senior One students need further study.Based on teaching experiment,this thesis seeks to check the efficiency of English vocabulary learning strategies in high school Senior One students.The experimental subjects come from two parallel classes in No 1 Middle School of Taojiang,Hunan.There are altogether 110 subjects,55 students coming from experimental class and 55 students coming from the control class.At the beginning,one questionnaire was employed.From the results of the questionnaire,the writer found that few students had the necessary strategies in learning vocabulary.Therefore,the training of vocabulary learning strategies is essential.In the English vocabulary teaching,the traditional English teaching model is used in the control class while English vocabulary learning strategies training are introduced to the experimental class.Two tests are conducted before and after the experiment in the two classes in order to make a comparison.The test results prove that the average score of the students in the experimental class improved nearly 5 points.According to the research results,it is obvious that vocabulary learning strategies training can improve the speed of vocabulary learning and improve their ability of using English as well.
