The Italian Wars were a series of conflicts from 1494 to 1559 that mainly involved France and Spain. The purpose of this article is to find out the reasons why France was engaged in Italian Wars.Based on my research,I think the Italian Wars should be divided into two periods. In the first period, compared to other European states,France is superior in the politic, military and economy. In order to be the master of Europe,France invaded Italy. However,in the second period, with the establishment of the great empire of Charles V,protecting its self-security became the primary concerns of the France;thus, the nature of the Italian Wars changed.Only in this way can we explain the reason explicitly.Generally speaking,I think in the first period there were four reasons.First the succession of the throne, second the Crusades, third covet the prosperity of Italy, fourth the dismemberment of Italy. In the second period there were three reasons.First the competition between monarchs, second the stress pushed by the queen and the Guise family, third the necessity of protecting the national security. It is the transformation of the war nature that resulted in different war reasons.
