"linking" is a common phenomenon in English,Russian and other languages.Domestic English learners are far more obsessed with English than their native languages—Chinese,and people with dozens of English learning experiences at home still face difficulties in communicating with native English speakers.The reason is that domestic English learners have not really mastered the using of "linking、swallowing、weaking" etc in the English language stream.Therefore,in this paper,"Linking" is taken as the research object.Combining domestic research results and the rules of linking reading in Chinese,Thai,English,and Russian have been sorted out to examine the concrete expression of "linking" in different languages.To find out more about the factors that affect language "linking".The study is divided into three parts:introduction,text and conclusion.In the first chapter,the introduction part mainly elaborates several sets of concepts which are"phonetic changes","linking" and "tone sandhi",as well as domestic research results,English and Russian researchers’review of "linking".Research methods and sources of corpus etc.The second chapter systematically analyzes the specific forms of linking in English,Russian,Chinese,and Thai.Through a large number of examples,it is argued that English and Russian "linking" need to have three conditions at the same time,namely(1)the same sentence group;(2)meaning indivisible;(3)complying with the corresponding linking rules."linking" is expressed in Chinese and Thai as "tone sandhi".Chinese syllables do not have the possibility of "linking" when there are tones,but they can "link" in the combination of non-light and soft sections."There is nothing in the Thai language that can be linked." Finally,the nature of "linking" in English and Russian is discussed.That is,the linking in English and Russian is essentially a process of reconstructing two independent words in phonetic part which is embodied in two independent words but has meaningful connections.The words have no noticeable pauses when they are pronounced and the syllable boundaries between words are broken down to form a tight "tone cluster" to sound like a word.The third chapter is the core chapter of this article.This chapter mainly discusses the tone and stress.Firstly,it discusses the language function of tone in Chinese and Thai language.Secondly,it discusses the hindrance of tone to the reconstruction of phonetic syllable;The reason for the "linking"of the unstressed syllable;finally,the influence of stress on the "linking" of English,Russian,Chinese,and Thai.The fourth chapter is the conclusion of this thesis.First of all,it summarizes the connection features of syllables in Chinese,Thai,English,and Russian,further demonstrates the impediments of tone to "linking" in Chinese and Thai.Secondly,it points out the innovations and deficiencies.This article confirms the impediment of tone to the "linking" of Chinese and Thai through empirical researches.Therefore,Chinese and foreigner learners need to fully understand the difference between Chinese and English and Russian in the learning process,and get rid of the negative transfer of mother tongue to their target language.Learners need to build bridges in their mother tongue and they also must be free from their mother tongue at the right time. |
